mahaloJazz is a flexible musical group offering not-so-straight-ahead ensemble music - jazz, bopHop! and otherwise. Our jazz, whether we're smokin' or driftin', is inspired by the likes of songsters George Gershwin and Cole Porter and innovators Charlie Parker, Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk. We can also present this music in our unique bopHop! fashion (dance-til-you-drop bebop and more). Otherwise includes music outside and in between, including R&B, reggae, pop, bossa, and our completely spontaneous conversations. We have huge fun playing it all...

At the FRANK Gallery in Chapel Hill, mahaloJazz 4 travelled among the collaborative self-portraits of Barbara Tyroler's Layers Exhibition, offering improvised musical response for each work. Nic Beery of Beery Media produced a live-feed video perspective of the musicians as they performed. It was great fun and we look forward to participating in more such collaborations!

In the public space on top of the Wallace Parking Deck in Chapel Hill, the FRANK Gallery sponsored a public slide show, presented on a large inflatable screen. It was a perfect autumn evening, folks came with folding chairs and snacks, and mahaloJazz 4 offered entirely improvised musical ambiance and accompaniment for the displayed images. HUGE fun!
