Michela (voice, frame drum) is an internationally recognized Sicilian-American singer. The granddaughter of Sicilians immigrated to America, she has re-discovered her own cultural roots through the study and reinterpretation of the folk songs of Sicily and Southern Italy.
Fabio (guitar, accordion) is a composer and accordionist from Cremona who travels the world with his music. Dividing his time between a repertoire of Italian folk revival and his own compositions, besides performing, Turchetti also writes books on the topic of music.
Together Michela and Fabio created the critically acclaimed 2016 CD Terra Sangue Mare , which has been included in Pop Matters’ list of The Twelve Best World Music Albums for 2016 and is played on world music radio stations around the globe. In 2018 they created a new multi-media project, Metalli Sonati, inspired by the ancestral sounds of Grecian, Roman, Arabian and Byzantine Sicily. Michela’s voice weaves both ancient and modern melodies together with Fabio’s playing and compositions to create a thaumaturgy of rare beauty. They have performed across the United States, Eastern Europe and Italy.
They will offer for us a concert of traditional and contemporary Sicilian folk and roots music, as well as some original compositions featured in the CD. During their stay in NC, they will be performing also at Wake Forest University, Elon University, and Festa Italiana in Raleigh.
Let’s enjoy a beautiful taste of Sicily!
