Aloha
Last Tuesday mahaloJazz offered up an hour of music as part of a GoFundMe event presented by CultureMill, with the intention of playing every Tuesday night through April and raising $1500 to support the costs of maintaining the studio space for the artists who perform in it and the students who take lessons in it. Through the generosity of many folks, we reached that goal by the end of the evening! We are deeply heartened by your support, that how we serve as artists in this world is welcomed and appreciated. We are inspired to continue “curating creative community one gathering at a time.”
mahaloJazz will continue streaming takeOut jazz on Tuesday evenings. Stay tuned for mahaloArts’ next streaming project: to resurrect the jazz and spoken word residency that we created earlier this year with The Station in Carrboro, music provided by Choo Choo Anoo, speakers and their verse curated by Gary Phillips. The pairing of storytelling and improvised musical accompaniment was experiencing expanding enthusiastic audiences until The Station had to close. This is an opportunity for folks to express their humanity safely and powerfully.
Because our fundraising effort exceeded our expectations, mahaloArts will be making donations to local businesses including CultureMill, The Eddy Pub, Saxapahaw General Store and SAFE. Money is energy, and sharing our time and energy with each other is how we are all going to get to the other side of our global challenge.
The GoFundMe site remains open, allowing for us, with your support and investment, to continue forward creating community.
Mahalo nui loa (thank you so much!)
